The obsession with this stone started with a rock hound and a dreamer. The rock was first discovered by James Wesley Hill, a miner and a trail builder, who became so obsessed he amassed a large personal collection of a particular type of rock he was finding just outside of Upheaval Dome–a geological site of wonder in Utah. 

Robert Hawthorne Sr. met Hill in 1995 and was intrigued by Wesley’s obsession. Having a background in sales and marketing, Hawthorne was struck with the same obsession. He met with top geologists–taking them on tours of Upheaval Dome, and even had the rock sent to NASA for research.

The theories of how Upheaval Dome was formed are out there and you can decide for yourself. But at Obsession Stone, we know in our souls that this rock is special. It is star struck–as one theory ties its formation to a super solar-flare.
